The Little Doward trig point bag had it all. A nice actual road to get there (no nasty narrow muddy lanes, somewhere to park legitimately, not just a space to abandon the car and leave a notice that I’d be back shortly – don’t tow or vandalise). As long as these two factors are covered, I’m happy! Which meant this one was already a winner! Couple that with a bright, warmish winters day and it had the making to be something special.
A spacious little car park and a map with a route made this a really nice bag! I was pretty sure the viewpoint on the map was going to be somewhere near the trig point, so headed along the loop. There was also the added bonus of an Iron Age Fort remains at the top too!
A nice easy walk along the path meandering up to the summit.
As I neared the summit – I could already see the Little Doward trig point up ahead.
The excitement always builds when you know it is as good as bagged – the walk turns into an excitable trot! Gotcha!
However, don’t get too excited about the Iron Age Fort – I naively expected something else, but it was just ancient mounds of earth where something once sat. Still pretty cool though – I wasn’t sure what to expect – but was expecting something more! For instance, some stone walls as there was a long wall spanning from the bottom to the top of the hill – it sort of set the tone of what I would see at the top! However, it wasn’t to be but was intriguing nonetheless.
The sky was blue, it was warm, the calves were burning and the heart rate was up – a good day!
