The Llancrwn trig point seems like an easy one from the outside looking in. However on the day, it was a little bit ominous!
I parked in a little layby by a noticeboard as Google Maps didn’t appear to show anything closer. It was a bit of a gamble but a gamble that paid off!
Why?
The lane I walked up was more narrow than narrow. An absolute nightmare if I was in the car with another heading toward me! There was nowhere to go! So that was pretty lucky. Generally not a fan of these narrow country lanes – most of which are pretty much a prerequisite with trig bagging in Herefordshire!
I arrived at the gate I had scouted on Google Maps. There was a welcoming note on the gate too! I know it’s a bit naughty, but other than heading up this field, I wasn’t sure how else to get to the Llancrwn trig point! So, over I went.
I tried to bag this one as quickly as I could so nobody got upset. There were people about and some farm vehicles in the next field so anxiously waited for some shouting… Which never came!
I was respectful to the property obviously and was only there to get to the trig point. However, the fun picked up as I reached the top of the field. There were some containers in the corner as as I was reaching the brow I couldn’t see any trig pillars.
… And there it was… In the next field over… Divided with a barbed wire fence! Had I known, I would have brought my car mat to help tackle it, like I did for the Berth Wood trig point. Always better to be safe than sorry!
Anyway, I hopped over a gap in the hedge and bagged the Llancrwn trig point.
It was in a freshly ploughed field and the views plus the blue sky surrounding it made for a lovely photograph.
Again, not sure if anyone would be happy that I was in this field, I made a sharp exit back over the fence, back down the field and back over the gate. As I headed back to the car, I could see the tree that was near the trig pillar from the narrow lane. With all these bags, once you know roughly where to be, just head for the high point… Which is what I did with this one!
A pretty easy one despite the unfriendly signage! There was even a defibrillator in a nearby repurposed phone box!
Let me know if you’ve an alternative route to the Llancrwn trig point over on Instagram or leave me a comment on here. Check out all my other bags here too!
