For the Oyster Hill trig point bag, I parked at a space by St James the Great Church in Colwall. Plenty of room for loads of cars. I headed back up the lane I came down until the junction where there is a house which marks the access point to the footpath to the right of it.
Hop over the gate or the stile and head up through the orchard.
The footpath is clearly marked and is easy to follow.
You go through a wooded area then come out into a field. Keep heading straight and there’s a locked gate and another stile.
The route is clearly marked so hop over the stile again and into a field of sheep and lambs.
Skirt around the edge and you guessed it – another stile!
You can start to get an idea of where the trig pillar is as there’s higher ground ahead of you. There’s a path that you can follow but I went straight up the wooded slope. It then opens up into a field – just head for the high point!
Strangely, there’s a bench that is higher up than the trig point. However, the views are pretty good still from the trig pillar.
Oyster Hill trig point in the bag!
It was about a mile from where I parked so sat on the bench and had a drink, enjoying the views! It’s a popular route as I passed several people walking. Don’t think they were fellow trig baggers as they weren’t as bothered with the big white lump of concrete on the hillside as I was!
A nice on this, and I picked a nice day for it. Sun was out, the sky was blue and the route was quite enjoyable. A fair bit of elevation too!
