For the Summercourt Farm trig point bag, I headed eastwards toward Kington, just outside of Lyonshall. This was a quick easy one. I parked on the roadside opposite some uninhabited houses. It was a half a mile walk along a public footpath… However, it wasn’t!
I followed a sign for the footpath then through a gate into an orchard. Realising I was heading in the wrong direction, I corrected this by heading along the road to get back on track.
Heading up toward Summercourt Farm, the track veers right and the trig pillar was sat just off the bend.
I was going to knock at the farmhouse to avoid a repeat of the White House Farm drama but where I was heading was away from the farmhouse… So, I just chanced nipping to bag it without the detour. One thing I’ve learned from bagging these trig points is that you can’t win with some landowners. How so? Well, some could not care less as long as you are behaving yourself. In fact, knocking to ask annoys them, they’re just happy for you to crack on! However, on the flipside, you encounter those who don’t appreciate you not making your presence known (White House Farm trig point bag!).
Like I said, I chanced it. I wasn’t staying any longer than I needed as there were a few rumbles of thunder and some very ominous looking black clouds!
Partially hidden in a hedge, there it was, the Summercourt Farm trig point!
By this point, there were a few spots of rain, so I headed up the (barley?) field tramlines looking for a shortcut but ended up coming back onto the road a little further up at Summercourt Cottage.
The rain was getting heavier and the thunder was getting louder so I broke into a jog. I beat the rain by jeez did it come down! There was standing water everywhere on the way back and visibility was a couple of meters because the rain was so heavy! Timed that just right!
