Today, I bagged The Friars trig point!
The Friars trig point was an easy one! I set off early on a Sunday morning and headed to the Plough Inn pub. I parked in the pub’s car park (postcode: HR2 6PW). It was closed and because of the time, I wasn’t abusing the car park!
From here, I headed out left from the car park.
A short walk and I was at the turning to The Friars. I headed up this dirt track (well, muddy track actually!).
Over to your left is this house which is where the trig point is.
About halfway up, there was a turning to The Birches. I didn’t need to turn off the dirt track but did notice a cool little shelter selling both human treats and dog treats! I didn’t indulge but what a great idea!
A sweeping left hand bend lead me up to some farm buildings and a house.
Knowing the trig point was nearby, I headed up to the gate to the property. It was closed and wasn’t sure if I was allowed to go through! However, a lovely old boy knew exactly what I was up to and after a brief chat, pointed me in the direction of The Friars trig point. It was through the main gate then into a field of sheep which was accessed through another gate in front of me.
There it was. Sat next to a telegraph pole just in front of the hedge!
A relatively easy one to find, though I say that because the old gent pointed at where it was with his walking stick!
I headed back to the pub car park following a half mile walk out and another half mile back. Cold, bright with the winter sun rising in the sky and dry – a world away from the torrential rain bagging the Aconbury Camp trig!
