The Marcle Hill trig point was of a particular interest as I intended on parking and checking out the Ridge Hill Broadcasting Tower.
However, Google Maps – you failed me! My destination was not on the right at all! The narrow, single-track lanes made this one a horrible one to get to. They were damp, they were dirty and when I got home, the car was filthy! However, I thought it would be all worth it… But it wasn’t really!
Google Maps took me to a gate to a house… Not the broadcasting tower! Nowhere near the Marcle Hill trig point.
There was a chap washing his car – using them lanes, I don’t blame him! I had to ask where I had gone wrong. He advised that back the way I came there was a turn off. I didn’t clock one, there were just fields I recalled. Aware that the trig point was back the way I came, so decided to park up outside the gates to the field I was certain the trig point was at the top of.
I tucked the car in so the field could still be accessed – I know that farmers can be twitchy about that. I was considerate and the stress of the narrow lanes and wrong directions made me just want to get this one done. So, it was over the gate to the top of the field of sheep then over a stile.
I knew the trig pillar was along the edge of the field so walked along… And there it was!
However, again, I was on the wrong side of the hedge / fence. Handily, just in front on the stile I had just come over was another which joined a public footpath which I headed up.
There was a low lying canopy so mind your heads! The Adzor Bank trig point is smack bang in the middle of the public footpath.
Painted white and looking pretty good – that was another trig bagged! Just in front of a sign!
It was back the way I came, jumped in the car and back on the narrow lanes – the stress alleviated a little as I’d bagged another trig point!
Let me know over on Instagram or leave a comment below if you found a better route to this one! I lost patience and just parked up!
