Coppet Hill Trig Point

For the Coppet Hill trig point bag, I parked opposite the village hall in Goodrich. It was easy to spot where I needed to be heading for this one!

I headed up a lane, past a few houses over a bridge until I arrived at the steps to the Coppet Hill Common – where – unsurprisingly – the Coppet Hill trig point was located!

The way up was muddy, a little overgrown but manageable with a steady incline as you’d expect. There were some interesting rocky outcrops on the way up. Also, a bit of a drop which somebody kindly made you aware of!

As the trail continued to climb, the views weren’t half bad. I could even see where I had parked in the village below.

The trail opened up and there it was…

Oddly, it wasn’t on the highest point, the trail continued upslope beyond where it was located.

I picked a pretty dull day to bag this one which was a shame. It was drizzling, the sun wasn’t out – it was generally a bit murky. The trails to the trig would be tricky to negotiate in a wintery, more soggy month so I can’t complain too much!

This is my second to last Herefordshire trig point bag. It’s nearing the end of July so my target of bagging them all by the end of the year has well and truly been smashed. I’ll need to find something else to motivate me to get out and about now. It was a bittersweet bag as a result. However, I’ve got to see many areas and explore many new places that I never knew existed… Despite living in Hereford for 40 years!

This one was an easy bag, about a mile from the village hall and a popular route. I was up early and I passed many walkers which was surprising. However, I timed it right because at 2pm that afternoon, there was the Coppet Hill Race – which is what the little orange flags were all about, presumably marking the route.
