The Backbury Hill trig point was a nice walk following part of the Mordiford Loop route. I parked at the picnic area. I went early on a Sunday morning so there was plenty of room, however I imagine it would fill up pretty fast on a nice day!
Follow the signs for the footpath which heads left after leaving the road onto the dirt track.
This route goes up, up and up! There’s a road crossing about halfway along. Carry on up! There’s not much to see as it was pretty overgrown – but still pretty!
When you reach this turn – you have two choices. One, follow the well-trodden path which gets you to the summit or do what I did…
Straight. Up! The Backbury Hill trig point was up there somewhere!
You always get a buzz when you know your near the trig pillar – so I took the direct route! However I did take the path back down just to see if it was the route at the turn I chose to ignore. Of course it was!
The Backbury trig point is… Sort of… pretty. There are no views as it’s basically in a small clearing in the middle of the woods. A nice walk and some different surroundings! Not a bad bag this one. Not the best… But I’ve certainly bagged worse!
Heading back to the car, there was an almighty rumble. Somehow, I’d manged to perfectly time getting back to the car park as a Charity Tractor Run convoy came over the brow of the lane right past me! Check out the awesome video on my Instagram here!
The convoy went on for about 5 minutes! However I stopped recording as I thought that was it… Then more kept coming!
A unique end to a trig bag! Probably the most interesting end to a bag thinking about it so far! Check out my other trig bags here with less interesting endings!
