The Chase Hill trig point bag is the last one! This is trig bag 70 of 70 across Herefordshire! I was in a celebratory mood because of that However, the great British summer wasn’t in a good mood – it was raining. It wasn’t going to dampen my spirits, last Herefordshire trig bag here I come!
I parked at the Community Centre in Tudorville. I created a route on Plataroute.com as the trig wasn’t far from a housing estate which was unusual. The only other trig point near civilisation that I recall was the Corner Cop trig point. I wasn’t convinced by the route at first as it was taking me through street after street, but I continued to follow anyway! Good job I did as at the top by some garages, there was a couple of steps into a field. This was more like it!
I hopped over the custom-built stiles and followed a bit of a trail around the edge of the field. At the top, it turns into the woods but continues uphill after that.
Meandering up the hill along the paths, the recent, unrelenting rain throughout July (you know, the usual Great British summer weather) made the trail a bit slippery and a lot muddy!
Occasionally there was the odd waymarker but it was easy enough to follow the trail to the top of the hill.
The tricky bit was the track that ran parallel to the field I needed to be in. Slippery, with an awkward camber. Keen to get off it as soon as possible, there was a well-trodden route into the field over a knocked down section of a barbed wire fence.
Through a little border of ferns, I was in a tall grass field. There was again a well-trodden path through the grass around the edge of the field that I followed. It wasn’t long before you could see it…
The Chase Hill trig point!
Sat in the long grass, and clearly a hang out for the ‘yoof’ as the pillar itself had a little graffiti on it. Views to the one side and the other had the backdrop of the woods I walked through.
I took a moment to reflect on what I had achieved, bagging all 70 trig pints in Herefordshire. This was the last one! Instead of a round of applause, there was the sounds of crickets and grasshoppers. Not quote the ovation I was expecting (jokes).
So that is that! All 70 bagged. What should I do next? Leave a comment or catch me over on Instagram.
Thanks to everyone who has visited the site or read a blog (or maybe 2!), it’s hugely appreciated. This was only meant as a bit of fun, however as I was discovering new places, I thought it would be cool to blog about it. Thanks again!
