Following on from the Rhiw Arw trig point bag, the North Daren trig point bag was the second of a double bag.
The two trig points were within a couple of miles from each other, along the Offas Dyke ridge path. So, it made sense to bag both at the same time!
Heading north from the Rhiw Awr trig point, I followed the ridgeline which doubled as the border between England and Wales to bag the North Daren trig point. England on my right, Wales on my left. Quite a weird feeling knowing I was in either country in just a step!
The views were pretty, and it was a pretty uneventful walk. I grabbed a few photos of the most interesting things to make this blog a little more engaging!
There were a few other walkers on the ridge. With several different routes, I can see the appeal of this one. It was part of the Offa’s Dyke path which, looking at it, goes on, and on… And on!
Two and a half miles-ish later and there was the North Daren trig point.
A couple of horses witnessed me bag this one. Otherwise, there was nobody else around. About a mile back, I saw a little stone way marker, pointing the way back to Llanthony.
Since I initially planned on going back the way I came, I thought this would be a good opportunity to turn it into a circular route. Plus, it would add a bit of interest to the overall 7.5 mile walk this turned out to be by going a different way back.
What started off with a gentle slope, soon got serious. There were some pretty spectacular views of the valley below and Llantony Priory in the distance once again. However, this time, it was in front of me, not behind me!
The slope got quite steep in places. I encountered a few people coming up as I was descending it. Soon enough, over a few stiles, I was back in the field off sheep I was in at the start. I headed back to the car park and while I was there, I had a look around Llanthony Priory. By that time, which was later afternoon, the place was packed! If you’re bagging the North Daren trig point or the Rhiw Arw trig point from Llanthony – get there early!
That’s another one done, now there’s only 19 left! Thanks for reading!
