For the Rhiw Arw trig point bag, I hopped over the border to Llanthony instead of heading to Longtown which was the original plan. I parked up at the Priory which added a bit of glam to the starting point!
The remains of a once magnificent structure nestled in a valley surrounded by the Black Mountains – one of which I was heading up, Hatterall Hill for a trig point double bag.
This one and the North Daren trig point were on the hit list as a joint bag as one was a couple of miles away from the other. All I had to do was follow the ridge until I found it then head back to Llanthony Priory.
Anyway, first things first, the Rhiw Arw trig point. I followed the route to Hatterall Hill Ridge. It took me through a few field of sheep before I was heading up a track. I could see the Priory back in the distance.
I cut off the last bit of the track and headed straight up the slope. My Coros Apex was telling me it was right there so I made a beeline to it, knowing it was the first of two trig I was bagging in the same trip, so I was simply being… ‘Efficient’!
There it was. On the track long the ridge… Among a herd of horses! Since it was all uphill to the trig pillar, technically it would be all downhill from there! Well, kind of… Along the flat-ish ridge path.
Rhiw Arw trig point bagged!
It was quite cool walking along what was essentially the border between England and Wales. Wales on my left and England on my right. Now I headed up to the North Daren trig point – read about that bag here!
