The Tump Farm trig point is an easy one. I’d almost bracket it in the ‘roadside bag’ category. If you’re short on time and looking for a quick easy bag, then the Tump Farm trig point will be right up your street!
Be warned, unless you’re prepared to walk a fair bit, there is little (to almost no) parking within at least a mile radius of this one. Nor could I see that it was on any particular walk route (correct me if I’m wrong?).
However there is enough room for a car to tuck into the junction where the track into the surrounding sheep fields (and the field with the trig pillar in). There’s a bit of a crossroads with a couple of lanes and this bit of ‘parking’ is just by that.
After that, simply head up the lane from where the rear of the farm is and hop over the SECOND gate on your right. Head immediately right again into the field (there’s no gate, just a gap). There was no livestock on this side of the track. The sheep were all on the left side.
The field with the Tump Farm trig point in was nicely maintained.
Grass had been mowed and an attempt was made to trim around it, as was the lane also neatly trimmed.
However, a big chunk of the corner of the trig pillar has been knocked off. Must have taken some doing! Despite the slightly damaged pillar, I’ll put this down as an easy enjoyable one. Except for the narrow lanes that I inevitably encountered oncoming vehicles… Typically way after any passing point. You never get used to these narrow, single lanes. I don’t know how the people that live along them do it. It’s not for me!
On the upside, as I write this, this is Herefordshire trig point bag number 60… Just 10 more to go!
Thanks for reading (and sticking with me) through this personal challenge to bag all the trig points in 2023. It’s July now and it is as good as done so I’m pleased with that. It’s been fun! Check out all my Herefordshire trig point bags so far here. Also, connect with me over on Instagram. My profile isn’t overly interesting but it does compliment my blog so there’s method behind the madness!
