The Windmill Hill trig point bag is an easy and scenic bag! I parked in a layby off the main road by some houses. Curiously, there was a sign in the layby saying 4 hours parking maximum. There wasn’t much around to do for 4 hours! Even the Windmill Hill trig point bag was only a 30-minute jaunt. Odd!
I had to follow the verges of the main road to the Morton Jeffries junction. Heading right, it took me on a narrow lane with a few houses dotted about and a farm. The hill ahead was where the trig pillar was – that was obvious!
The lane split into 3.
I headed straight up the middle. There was another big house with beyond a huge garden. The door of the house was open. However, after knocking, nobody appeared. Awkward. I’m now an avid ‘knock if there’s a house’ after the altercation at the White House Farm trig point bag!
Heading up through the yard, past some big farm building – there were plenty of cars – however, no signs of life! All bar a little dog!
Therefore I knew where I had to go so headed off cautiously. Knowing this could get ugly if the landowner saw me!
Heading up the track, I could hear a farm vehicle, so stood in the entrance flagging down the chap. He saw me, waved, and approached on his tractor. It was indeed the landowner who was a happy jolly fellow. Didn’t mind me being there and pointed the way. Even asked me how many trig points I have bagged so far. As it stands, this was number 47 of 70!
He pointed the way and I went left, he went right back to the farmyard. Up the track a little further, through a gate after that then up a calf-burning hill to the trig pillar.
Windmill Hill trig point bagged!
The views weren’t bad on this one either!
In conclusion, a nice walk – about 0.75 miles from the layby, friendly landowner and decent views.
