Burghill Trig Point

Oh my oh my… what an unnecessarily convoluted bag the Burghill trig point was!

I scoped out where to go and where to park on Google Maps to bag the Burghill trig point. looked like an easy one to get done on a Sunday morning. However I need to work on my navigational prep work! Google maps had changed a little… Apparently! Where I thought I was going to park didn’t actually exist anymore!

Eventually, I found a pull in in front of a gate. Plenty of room to access the field in case any agricultural vehicles came along. Plus, I thought it was ‘just up there’ so if I saw a tractor I could sprint back and move so nobody gets angry.

I thought the Burghill trig point was just up there! Oops!

However…

I headed up to where I thought the Burghill trig point was located. It wasn’t there. I was a bit stumped! I had a mooch around in the overgrown edge of the field but was left scratching my head. It should have been there I thought!

Where I headed around the edge of the first field

There was another field adjacent to the one I was in. It had a barbed wire fence which is always a good indicator there’s no public right of way – but I wasn’t leaving empty-handed!

I clambered over the fence, thinking it would be right there… But it still wasn’t! Getting a bit twitchy as I could no longer see the car and any issues it might be causing, I scooted around the edge of the field but still nothing.

Another gate, another field. I thought I’d have a quick look.

…And there it was! At last! However, my first thought before bagging it was move the car. Low and behold, literally next to the trig point was the round and even a proper lay-by with access into the field. Proper access!

There it was - the Burghill trig point - at last!

I sprinted back to the car, drove up to the layby and properly bagged it without worrying about farmers and farm traffic!

Might be nice in summer when everything was in bloom. The views weren’t great, there was lots of litter too sadly.

Needless to say, another trig in the bag! You don’t need a day out to bag this one (unless your navigational skills are as bad as mine!). Park up next to it. Bag it… Then grab another!
